Frequently asked questions

My dog is limping — does it need orthopaedic surgery?

Not necessarily. Limping can have many causes from soft tissue injuries to joint disease. We'll perform a thorough clinical examination and X-rays to determine the cause and recommend the most appropriate treatment — which may or may not be surgery.

What is TPLO surgery and does Mike's Vet perform it?

TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy) is the gold-standard surgical treatment for cranial cruciate ligament rupture in dogs. Contact us to discuss whether your dog is a candidate.

How long is the recovery from orthopaedic surgery?

Recovery varies significantly by procedure. Fracture repair may need 6–12 weeks of restricted exercise, while soft tissue joint procedures may have a shorter timeline. We provide a detailed written recovery plan with every surgical case.
