Frequently asked questions
How quickly do blood test results come back?
In-house blood panels are typically ready within 20–30 minutes. This allows your vet to discuss results and begin treatment in the same appointment, which is particularly important for unwell pets.
Does my pet need to fast before a blood test?
For a biochemistry panel, we generally recommend withholding food for 4–6 hours before the test. Water is fine. For an emergency or basic panel, we can run tests without fasting if needed.
What does a pre-anaesthetic blood screen check for?
It assesses kidney and liver function, red and white blood cell counts, and clotting indicators — to ensure your pet can safely metabolise the anaesthetic drugs before any procedure.
